Quality carpeting works like a filter, trapping pollen, animal dander and dust that would otherwise easily become airborne when disturbed on a hard surface. These dastardly particles that cause so much havoc on those with allergies become trapped in the fibers of a carpet until they are easily vacuumed away.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America define allergens as any substance that cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma symptoms in some people. They go on to state that 8 out of 10 people in the USA are exposed to some form of allergens year round and in the spring that number increases to 9.5 in 10 in the Spring.
AAFA states that regular aggressive cleaning improves air quality and reduces exposure to allergens. Their recommendations include cleaning of all surfaces due to the fact that there are statistically more allergens that settle on surfaces. Thick wool carpet fibers act like a filter, clinging to the particles until they are whisked away by the brushing and suction of your vacuum, keeping them from becoming re-distributed into your home or office air during the course of everyday activities in your home or office. The majority of all vacuums today offer some sort of HEPA Filtration greatly reducing the re-exposure to these particles while vacuuming your carpeted spaces.
The AAFA also recommends in the Spring and Fall to prevent excess entry of pollen into your living spaces by keeping doors and windows shut and running a filtered air scrubber to help alleviate seasonal allergy causes.
