Are you in love with The Great Gatsby as much as we are? You might have read the book as a child, flipping through the breathtaking and dramatic story. The film this summer merited equally dramatic feelings. We especially loved the fashion and metallics shown throughout the movie, along with pale hues and soft fabrics.
Gatsby Influence
Over-the-top pool parties, plenty of booze and perfectly manicured gardens at Jay Gatsby’s home continue to influence fashion, design and romance. As World War 1 ended, the 20’s became a time when many came to enjoy the affluent life. It was a time where everything changed to the extreme both politically and socially, and so fashion and design had its extremes as well.
If you loved The Great Gatsby movie and appreciate the history of the 20’s fashion, design and Art Deco Nouveau, then you will love some of the items we’ve found that celebrate this story, originally written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. Read on if you want a little Jay Gatsby in your life!
We stumbled upon the Sun Sentinel’s picks for Gatsby inspired looks, like this bottle of Tocca Liliana perfume; $68 at Tocca.com. “This intoxicating mixture of Italian Bergamot, Neroli, Watery Peach, Gardenia, Sandalwood and Patchouli is as fresh and mysterious as Gatsby himself. This scent was inspired by the roarin’ ‘20s and ‘The Great Gatsby’ film.” This bottle is on our list!
And what about this purse from Kate Spade? How darling!
Jeweler Giant In On the Action
Look at the headpiece below worn by Daisy (Carey Mulligan) in this summer’s film; it’s selling for $238,281. Created by Tiffany’s, it was designed especially for the movie. It’s no surprise that with the excited celebration and marketing of the film that Michael J. Kowalski, chairman and chief executive officer of Tiffany’s reported first quarter worldwide sales have exceeded their expectations, “enabling us to improve our sales leverage on fixed expenses and achieve earnings growth” (as reported by The Telegraph).
Design Your Own Gatsby Look
And if you are looking to change up your hotel, architectural firm, country club, salon, dermatologist suite, clothing store, office or a room in your home, nothing will complement your room and Gatsby decor better than metallics under your feet. Since we have several carpet designs infused with brilliant metallic colors and textures, we decided to include just a couple below, both by Silver Creek for Bloomsburg Carpet.
