How Did They Do That? Inside the Mill at Bloomsburg Carpet

Step inside the mill at Bloomsburg Carpet and learn more about the process behind the designing and manufacturing of our products

Bloomsburg Carpet – Inside the Mill, Image #1

Since the 70’s, only beautiful carpet has made it’s way out of the Bloomsburg Carpet mill located in Bloomsburg, PA.  And there, the staff have made it their passion to manufacture residential as well as commercial carpet for many of the top institutions in the United States.  There are many brands that manufacture carpet overseas, but tucked away in the rolling hills of Bloomsburg, the entire company is proud to offer a product so excellent in quality, durability and style, and made only in the U.S.A.

Bloomsburg Carpet continues to invest in equipment to increase efficiency and ensure the high quality our clients expect. The brand new state-of-the-art shearer, (Image # 3), was shipped over from England and installed last week. The installation was overseen by VPs’ Marty Bowman and Jim Cody and the first run was also overseen by owner Tom Habib  The very first commission to pass through the shearer was carpet headed for the U.S. Senate.

“Our newly installed sellers shearing machine has already improved overall product clarity and increased efficiencies as it is directly in line with our latex and finishing line, Jim Cody stated”. “We are also anxiously awaiting a new delivery of anew 12 foot wide Vander loom scheduled to arrive in October. The new shear and loom acquisition along with delivery of two electronic jacquards will round out our capital improvement projects for 2012”.

Here is a look at the photos of the mill taken by Photographer Joe Longo:

Image # 1 (above) –  This is showing part of the process of coloring a custom design. These are two poms and a swatch from Bloomsburg Carpet’s custom box that have been chosen to match custom dyed yarn for this pattern. Our custom yarn box is a starting point for many clients if they don’t have an exact match to something else needed. Once colors, color placement and design are approved by the client, the yarn to be dyed is ordered and the pattern is scheduled to be woven.

Image # 2 – This shot shows some of the design process. The finished woven carpet is in the foreground, upper left corner is the CAD (digital printout of the custom pattern in the design program, showing the color placement for each end). Upper right is a staff member holding an iPad, one of the tools that is used to start the process. For example, sometimes a picture is taken of an existing pattern, whether carpet, fabric or pretty much anything – then it is brought into the design program to make it work for weaving, resulting in the printed CAD. Eventually the carpet is woven.
