Design ideas and inspirations surround us every day. Spring streams, summer flowers, trees in the fall, winter’s snow flakes and drifts, a patch of colorful tiles, the geometric designs found on the side of an ancient ruin or the skyline of a modern city; each can ignite and inspire the creative mind.
Blogs and Design Websites
The internet has drawn designers and homeowners together like never before with social sharing sites, blogs and e-zines all focused on an endless selection of visuals from which to draw ideas. Two of the most popular sites today are Pinterest and Houzz where users, designers, manufacturers and their clientele, can share inspiration of all kinds with one another. Manufacturers watch what is trending, designers source ideas for clients, and clients create idea folders to group favorites, needs, and desires to share with their designers (or spouses?).
Pinterest is a photo sharing social media forum that allows users to “pin” their favorite photos (and the original site it came from) into theme based collections and share them with friends or publicly. Friends and other users browse the site for inspiration and re-pin to their own Pinterest boards for revisiting or sharing with their friends and family.
Houzz is an online home improvement (design, architecture, landscaping) social community where homeowners are able to save images of design concepts that they like for current or future home improvement projects. Users can click on the products in the images to learn more about the carpet, wall and window coverings, and lighting or whichever product has been tagged. As of August 2013 the Houzz databases contained over two-million photos, and these images had been added to individual “idea books” 289 million times!
One Bloomsburg Carpet Pintrest Category takes its cue from Greige products and textiles. Greige is simply a term that means not bleached or dyed. The French “grège” and Germanic “greggio” meaning gray (the color) was the inspiration for this Pinterest board “It’s All the Greige“. This board features wall coverings, wool fabrics, as well as Bloomsburg’s American made Caravan Tweed Carpets.
Textures and Patterns
Textures and patterns surround us. Finding inspiration to appeal to an individual’s senses in whatever manner suits their customer is the goal of every designer. Successfully achieving this goal by deftly matching textures AND colors is the end product of all great designers. Inspiration may arise anywhere and Bloomsburg’s designers have pinned some of their favorite textures and patterns in their “Oh Texture” a Pinterest board.

Seasonal Design Trends
2013 fall and winter art deco designs take inspiration from early 20th century progressives with clean lines and color pallets.
Whether it was our great-grandparents seaside home or a trip to historic Salem, Massachusetts, recreating modern versions of the places we lived in the past is comforting, and granting the ability to preserve those moments and places for future generations. This modern coastal colonial home showcases carpet made in the USA by Bloomsburg Carpet in the main foyer used as staircase runner to preserve hardwood floors.
