Carpet maintenance can be a challenge at times, but we’ve found some great tips and tricks to keep your floors looking like new. The best part is everything you need is likely already in your home!

Removing indentations

We all have them, but some carpet indentations are easier to hide. The trick to getting the carpet to “fluff up” is to add moisture. Put small ice cubes in the dents, and absorb the moisture with a towel once they have melted. Brush back and forth and voila! If the dent hasn’t gone away completely, use a fork to gently pull the fibers back up. For more stubborn indentations, iron on low over a damp towel.

Cleaning pet hair

If you have a pet, you know it doesn’t take long for their hair to get everywhere. While vacuuming is probably the best way to remove hair from your floors, you might not want to do it every day. There is actually another tool in your home that can be nearly as effective – a shower squeegee! Simply run a dry squeegee over your carpet, and you’ll see the hair collecting immediately. It is also a great idea to apply fabric softener to your carpet beforehand to remove static.

Painting around carpet

Keep the paint on the wall and off the carpet with a simple trick. Apply masking tape to the carpet where it meets the wall and use a knife the tuck it under the baseboard. Apply press and seal wrap on top of that the extend your protection. For major projects, add a tarp or drop cloth on top to keep the entire area safe.
